For my last book

I think I’ve read my last book for the year . . . at least until I get to the opthomologist. But this one was a good one, even if it strained my eyes. Recently I stopped at a neighbor’s home to visit while on my way home from my daily walk. We visited a bit, and she showed me a book she was finishing. It is about the “orphan train” of the early nineteenth century, of which I had never known so I asked some questions. Yesterday afternoon, my neighbor brought me the book to read.

The book is called The Orphan Train West Trilogy, by Jane Peart. It’s about 3 orphan girls who have each been abandoned by a parent at an orphanage in Boston. They are selected to go on an “orphan train” to hopefully be adopted by midwestern families. Then it follows each of them through their lives and challenges until they are adults, showing them triumphing over their past and the route they each take to follow their dreams.

This is a peaceful book, even though parts could be heartbreaking. It left me happy and grateful throughout the entire book. Instead of being cross if I was interrupted, I was pleasant and willing to break from the book. That is a switch and why I generally read after the kids go to bed.

I highly recommend this book because it is a masterfully written human interest tale. If you read it, I hope you enjoy it as much I did!
